Australian singer Amy Sheppard praised for sharing deleted bikini picture after weight gain update
An Australian singer has been applauded for posting a deleted photograph of herself on the beach in a bikini.
Amy Sheppard took to Instagram to share a refreshingly real side-by-side image of the picture she decided to share online, versus the image she had instead deleted.
The 32-year-old wanted to remind her followers that not everything they see on social media is real, and candidly stated that the picture on the left had been “curated” while the other was “candid”.
“Posted vs. deleted. You know the story: same person, same day,” she wrote in her caption.
“There is nothing wrong with either photo but one is curated and the other is candid. Next time you scroll through your favourite influencer’s feed keep this in mind.”
The singer rose to fame thanks to being a founding member of the band Sheppard, which spawned the hit Geronimo.
The song spent three weeks in the number one position on the ARIA singles chart and has been certified platinum five times.
The star has recently opened up about her weight gain, stating that the extra kilos has made her “feel free”.
Sheppard posted a ‘before’ and ‘after’ of herself in a swimsuit and wrote an empowering caption about her changing body.
“I’ve put on weight. Don’t pity me!” she wrote.
“This is not ‘toxic fat’. This soft, juicy, extra layer is FREEDOM.
“It’s dinner out with my beautiful friends; it’s a romantic walk to get ice cream with my partner; it’s saying YES to new foods when travelling.
“It’s feeling satisfied every day instead of deprived and irritated every day.
“This extra weight is my life, and there’s no way I could ever trade it for a tiny pair of jeans again.”
Sheppard is not the only celebrity who is keeping it real when it comes to weight gain.
In 2020, Taylor Swift spoke about her weight in her Netflix documentary Miss Americano and how she had gone from a size zero to a size 6.
Swift explained that there was a period where she “wasn’t eating”, and explained she felt the pressure to be skinny because of the culture.
She added that even when she was at her smallest, she felt like she still could not hit every beauty standard.
“I’m a lot happier with who I am,” Swift stated.
“I don’t care as much if like somebody points out that I gained weight, it’s just something that makes my life better.
“The fact that I am a size six instead of a size double zero. I mean that wasn’t how my body was supposed to be.”
Similarly, Selena Gomez recently addressed her weight gain, explaining that it occurred due to taking medication to help with lupus.

“When I’m taking it, I tend to hold a lot of water weight, and that happens very normally,” Gomez said in a video shared on Twitter.
“When I’m off of it, I tend to kind of lose weight.
“I just wanted to say and encourage anyone out there who feels any sort of shame for exactly what they’re going through and no one knows the real story.”
